BEXAR COUNTY -- A seven-year-old is dead following what authorities are calling a "freak accident" at a horse farm in northern Bexar County on Friday afternoon.

Sgt. Tom Dorsa with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office said the boy, seven-year-old Wyatt McDaniel, was playing in a pile of loose sand with his five-year-old brother at the Wild Sunday Farm, 490 West Specht Road.

The boy somehow became buried in the four-foot pile of sand, Dorsa said, and went into cardiac arrest while his brother went to get help around 5 p.m. Friday.

Authorities said a deputy performed CPR on the boy until medics arrived. He was then flown by helicopter to University Hospital.

KENS confirmed through independent sources that McDaniel was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The boys' parents operate the ranch, but do not live on the property, deputies explained.
