LEAGUE CITY, Texas -- She’s been teaching in the Clear Creek School District for more than 10 years, but accusations that Stephanie Forbes has been having an on-going relationship with a student have put a stop to that.
The 40-year-old handed in her resignation in December.
Forbes most recently taught at Clear Creek High School in League City. The investigation into the alleged sexual relationship between the teacher and a student started last month.
On Thursday, police arrested Forbes at her home on Sorrelwood Drive in League.
Her father came to the door when KHOU 11 -- KENS 5's sister station in Houston -- knocked for a comment.
“You’ll have to talk to her. She’s not here,” he said.
Forbes has posted bond on conditions that she stay away from children if there isn’t an adult present.
The subject proved to be a touchy one in Forbes’ League City neighborhood.
“I don’t want to talk about it. She’s a friend of mine,” said one woman across the street.
Parents attending a Friday night basketball game at Clear Creek High were just finding out about the accusations.
“You’re teaching the kids. Why are you trying to have a relationship with the kids you’re trying to teach. You’re not setting a good example for kids or nothing,” said Mary Johnson.
Investigators allege this wasn’t a one-time incident.
The sexual relationship between Forbes and the student allegedly went on for a while. It’s unclear where they were reportedly meeting up.
Authorities say the student’s family found out and contacted authorities. Documents say that victim is a child 16 or under.
