AUSTIN -- A 55-year-old truck driver was killed after the 18-wheeler he was driving crashed into an East Austin thrift store.
Just before 3 p.m. police say the truck careened into the back of the Texas Thrift store in the 5300 block of Interstate 35 near 53rd Street. There were customers inside at the time, but no one else was injured.
Investigators with APD say they don't know if the truck was on the highway or the frontage road when it crashed into the building.
EMS performed CPS on the driver, but he died at the scene. The Travis County Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Engineers are on the scene to see if the building is still structurally safe.
