LAREDO, Texas -- Border Patrol agents in Laredo seized more than $11 million worth of marijuana at a checkpoint on Thursday.
Agents noticed the 18-wheeler make an abrupt U-turn after the driver saw that he was coming upon a temporary check point on I-83, just south of Laredo, according to a press release.
The driver, a man from Alice, Texas, was quickly pulled over and questioned. Agents said his box container was then searched after a service canine detected drugs and an X-ray scan also showed suspicious items inside.
Agents said they found 731 bundles of marijuana, weighing a total of 14,353.19 pounds. The street value of the drugs was estimated at $11,482,552.
The marijuana, vehicle and suspect were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
