HOUMA, La. - A man was shot in his thigh in Houma Wednesday when he tried to stand up to a boyfriend who was abusing his girlfriend, according to Houma Police.

Henry Allridge Jr., 19, 401 Ashlawn St., Houma, is not only charged with attempted murder, but with biting, choking and punching his girlfriend as well, police said.

The wounded man is 21, police said. His condition was not immediately available.

Police say the unnamed girlfriend refused to leave a home in the 500 block of East Street with Allridge. He allegedly punched her repeatedly in the face, choked her and bit her on the neck.

Allridge argued with the 21-year-old, who was among the people who intervened on the woman’s behalf, police said, and then shot him, police said.

Allridge is charged with attempted second-degree murder, domestic-abuse battery by strangulation and simple battery. A criminal damage to property charge resulted because he broke a cell phone during the fight, police said.

He is in the Terrebonne Parish jail, and his bond has not yet been set.
