TAYLOR, Texas -- A 12-year-old boy is recovering after a gunshot wound to his right arm and abdomen, according to police.
Just before 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, police responded to 610 Howard Street in Taylor, where they found the injured boy. He was transported to Seton Williamson County Hospital but then transferred to Dell Children's Medical Center, where he underwent surgery and is currently in stable condition.
Police said 22-year-old Ryan Reynaga, the victim's cousin, was playing with a semi-automatic pistol when he pointed the gun at the boy and pulled the trigger, thinking that he had unloaded the gun.
Reynaga fled the scene, but police later found him at a residence in Hutto.
Reynaga has been charged with injury to a child and unlawful possession of a firearm, both felonies. He was booked into the Williamson County Jail and additional charges are pending.
