AUSTIN -- Police have released the name of the man found dead Tuesday night inside a Northeast Austin apartment complex.
The Austin Police Department says Reynaldo Ortega, 19, was found with multiple gunshot wounds at Cameron Green Apartments on Cameron Road after they received a call just after 9 p.m. EMS responded to the scene and Ortega was pronounced dead just after 9:30 p.m.
Another man was found inside an apartment with a gunshot wound. He was taken to UMC Brackenridge with life-threatening injuries. He is in stable condition.
Homicide detectives found that Ortega had been approached by a man in the parking lot around 9:15. The pair got into some sort of disturbance and the man shot Ortega multiple times. The other victim was shot immediately after.
Lt. Michael Eveleth is handling the case. He believes the shooter's motive is robbery.
"What I would tell people if you are confronted with such an event is just give up your property," said Lt. Eveleth.
Police say the suspect left on foot. He is described as a black man about 18 to 20 years old. He is thin with short hair, and he was last seen wearing long dark pants and a dark hoodie.
