If finding a carpool partner were as easy as opening an app and clicking 'yes,' would you agree to ride to work with a complete stranger?
Well, mapping and GPS parking service Waze is hoping your answer is yes.
They've recently launched "Waze Carpool" in Austin, promising a safe and community-oriented app to link those with similar commutes and ultimately cut down on traffic and fuel.
The system works by combining the existing Waze app with a new Waze carpool app. Drivers can use their existing accounts on Waze and agree to transport others with similar commutes.
Their website says they determine the routes by linking "riders and drivers with nearly identical commutes based on their home and work addresses. Thanks to Waze advanced mapping capabilities, the platform connects carpool partners from the same local community, making it easy to carpool with neighbors and colleagues you know or haven’t met yet."
