While Austin may be known as a tech hub, some of the surrounding areas are giving the city a run for its money.
In Bastrop this week, elementary, middle and high school students all came together with one thing in common: robots.
"Schools from middle schools all the way to high school," Bastrop Mayor Connie Schroeder said. "It's a way of giving the kids a career path from the interests they have in school to a potential career in the field."
Students train and learn on Lego robotics and then work their way up into building and programming their own full robotics.
"The future is them," Bastrop Middle School teacher Erin Land said. "This teaches them how to solve problems and use their skills of math and science to answer real world situations."
