Feedback sought on proposed CapMetro changes

If the proposal is approved, Capital Metro will see changes on more than half of its 82 bus routes.

AUSTIN – Members of the public are invited to attend a series of outreach meetings and online webinars to give Capital Metro feedback on what it calls “the most significant transformation of its bus network in the agency’s 32-year history.”

CapMetro said it began work on the Connections 2025 Transit Plan in October 2015. The proposal would change more than half of the transit provider’s 82 bus routes. Under the plan, the High-Frequency Network would go from six to 14 routes, improving bus frequencies so that buses will operate every 15 minutes, seven days a week.

“We’re excited to present these plans to the public,” said Todd Hemingson, Capital Metro’s vice president of planning and strategic development in a statement. “We believe strongly in the new network and are looking forward to the chance to let our riders and everyone else in the Austin area know more about it.”

Public meetings will be held the following days:

- Sept. 25, 5:30-7 p.m., Howson Branch Library (2500 Exposition Blvd.)
- Sept. 26, 5:30-7 p.m., Pleasant Hill Branch Library (211 East William Cannon Drive)
- Sept. 27, 5:30-7 p.m., Hampton Branch Library (5125 Convict Hill Road)
- Oct. 2, 5:30-7 p.m., Gus Garcia Recreation Center (1201 East Rundberg Lane)

Online webinars will be held at 12 p.m. on both Sept. 28 and Oct. 2, and registration is required. TAP OR CLICK HERE to register for the Sept. 28 webinar. TAP OR CLICK HERE to register for the Oct. 2 webinar.

A public hearing will also be held 12-12:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at Capital Metro Headquarters, located at 2910 East Fifth Street.

If the proposal is approved by the board of directors in November, the changes will go into effect in June 2018. TAP OR CLICK HERE for more information about the proposed changes.
