Austinites celebrate St. Patrick's Day at Pioneer Farms

Saturday was all about celebrating the Irish culture.

Thousands of Austinites headed to Pioneer Farms from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday to celebrate the festivities of St. Patrick’s Day.

From a mixture of Irish and Scottish music, to the choice in beer like Guinness, Saturday was all about the Irish culture.

Austinites were decked out in green, and one man even had a large self-made hat in honor of the holiday.

“A friend and I have this competition where we just make hats for festivities and they've been bigger over time,” said Tyler Landrum, an attendee. "It makes me easy to find in a crowd.”

The event also featured food trucks and games for the kids.

Many people said the music was their favorite part.

“The bagpipes,” said Joyce Phelps. “They kind of get you going and then the stories are always great. Somehow listening to the music, it’s genetic. It makes your feet stomp and gets you up dancing.”

A spokesperson for the event said nearly 2,000 people were expected in attendance.
