HARPER, Texas – Harper ISD, the district serving the western Gillespie County community, said classes were canceled Tuesday due to a threat.

On its website, the district did not elaborate on the nature of the threat, but said in a release late Tuesday afternoon that it was not credible.

“The District was notified of the threat late in the evening of Monday, November 27, 2017 and implemented its emergency operations plan," the release said. "Law enforcement was notified and the decision was made to cancel classes on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our students and staff."

Harper ISD said classes will resume on Wednesday, Nov. 29. Harper is around 90 miles west of Austin and around 23 miles west of Fredericksburg.
