Hi everyone, it's Aja! I am all about using natural, textural elements when decorating my home. I don't go crazy with the seasonal or holiday decor (other than Christmas!), but a few touches here and there are nice.
One thing I like to have up is a wreath on our front door. I was ready for something new and fall-ish, so I set out to make something. This shimmering pine cone wreath is what I came up with! Want to make one, too?
Here's what you'll need:
- Flat Wreath Form
- Pine Cones (I scored mine in the Target Dollar Spot)
- Gold Metallic Paint
- Glue Gun (not pictured)
First up, spray paint your pinecones with the gold spray paint. I put mine in an old cardboard box to keep them contained. I only did 2 coats and kept it pretty light-handed. I wasn't trying to coat every inch of each pinecone in gold- I just wanted a little shimmer! After the first coat, shake the box a bit to move them around. That way you'll get different angles for the next coat.
Once your pine cones are dry, lay them out on your wreath to get a feel for where they look good. I noticed I had more of the rounder pine cones, so I made sure to distribute them all around the wreath.
It worked best to grab 2 or 3 pine cones at a time and figure out how to layer them, then glue them down. It was a little tricky since they have such hard angles. I did dabs of glue between the pine cones as well as to the wreath to keep them in place. I also tried to save the smallest pieces to add and fill in holes at the end.

All done! Once it dried completely, this wreath is very sturdy. I love how simple and textural it looks on our front door and the subtle sheen of the gold spray paint. It's not too bright or glitzy, which is what I was going for. And if you like a little more going on on your wreaths, it would be easy to add a few sprigs of evergreen or cranberries to give it some festive color!
I also discovered that this wreath would be perfect laying on your table at Thanksgiving with a few candles in the center. Now I can't decide which way I like it better.. maybe I need to make another one!
