Originally, I saw this idea pinned on Pinterest but no matter how hard I tried, I could not make the Sharpie's stay on the plates. After a few hours of this, I set the temp a little higher on the oven and managed to figure out that these plates work best as decorative plates not everyday use plates. They would be perfect to make for the holidays or as party favors (especially if kids make their own). They'll last pretty well once or twice then, the Sharpie will eventually come off in the dishwasher or sink.

That being said, these are super cool and I've made a few of them which I now have around my house. My favorite is the one with song lyrics, I wrote around the edges of the plate. I thought that would be super cute for a frugal date night at home. Want to make some too? Yep, I thought so.

{Supplies}

Dollar Store Plates

Sharpies

Directions: Simply color on the plates anyway you would like. Be sure to use glass plates so they don't melt in the oven. Then, bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. That will 'set' the Sharpie a bit more than normal so you can actually use them. Be sure to let them cool completely before use or you'll have Sharpie tinted food.

These are a blast to make and your kids will love them too!
