Some University of Texas graduates will be wearing plastic bottles when they get their diploma.

Or what used to be plastic bottles.

The University Co-Op is introducing a new line of eco friendly caps and gowns.

Each set is made from about 23 plastic water bottles.

"In a year of adopting these we will keep about 200,000 water bottles out of the landfill.  That's how many UT students will be wearing this," said Kristen Hilbert, graduation manager

UT is the first school in Texas to use the eco-friendly sets.

They only cost about $5 more than non-recycled caps and gowns.
