The date for Texans to reserve rebates up to $1,600 for select Energy Star appliances has been changed from Monday, April 5 to Wednesday, April 7.

The state made the change to accommodate Texans who are traveling over the Easter holiday weekend.

The online reservation system will open for applications beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Texas Powerful Smart Web site

The window to purchase qualified appliances runs from April 16 through April 25 for refrigerators, freezers, clothes washers, dishwashers and room air conditioners. For central air conditioners, hot water heaters and air-source heat pumps, consumers can make their purchases up to 60 days after April 16.

Only Texas residents qualify for the rebate program, which is funded by more than $23 million in federal stimulus funds from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Additional rebates, incentives and tax credits for energy efficient appliances may also be available, depending upon the product purchased.

In addition, on Memorial Day weekend, the state is having an Energy Star sales tax holiday, when all Texas and local sales and use taxes will be waived for the purchase of qualified appliances, light bulbs and thermostats.
