AUSTIN -- Helping save money by saving electricity is a new goal of Austin's public library system. They're partnering with Austin Energy so you can check out a watt meter.
It measures the electricity your appliances use when you're not actively using them.
It is believed a typical home could see up to $120 a year in savings.
"There's already a lot of interest expressed to us that folks want to use these things and take them home and try them out."
The money savings come when you unplug that appliance rather than simply turning it off.
Beginning Saturday you can check out a watt meter for a three-week period at any Austin Public Library location.
