Holiday musicals coming to Austin

Two holiday musicals - 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer' and 'A Christmas Story' - will be featured at the Long Center during the holiday season this year.

AUSTIN - Stage versions of two classic holiday stories will be at the Long Center during the holidays.

Performances of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical” will be Nov. 24-25, and “A Christmas Story: The Musical” will be Dec. 29-31 at the Long Center. 'Rudolph' first premiered in 1964 as a stop-motion animation program, and is frequently shown during the holidays in the 21st Century.

“[Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical] entertains and, at the same time, helps spread the important and timeless message that we should celebrate our differences, said producing partner Jonathan Flom.

Rudolph showings will partner with PACER's, a National Bullying Prevention Center. A portion of the proceeds from the book "T.E.A.M Rudolph and the Reindeer Games" will be donated to PACER. The Long Center added there will be ASL interpreter services for the performance at 11 a.m. Nov. 25. TAP OR CLICK HERE for more information.

"A Christmas Story" was first released in 1983 and gets marathons on cable during the holidays now. "A Christmas Story: The Musical" - like the film - takes place in 1940s Indiana, and follows Ralphie Parker on his quest for the holiday gift of his dreams. The Long Center said the musical will include moments from the film like the leg lamp, pink bunny pajamas and the department store Santa.
