La Barbecue moving to Quickie Pickie, closing food truck

AUSTIN - One of Austin’s favorite food trucks will soon be trading in its wheels for a more permanent residence. La Barbecue has announced it will be moving into the Quickie Pickie at 2027 E. Cesar Chavez St.

According to our news partners at the Austin American-Statesman, the La Barbecue will halt operations at their food truck staple after July 30 and will begin slinging meat at the Quickie Pickie on August 2.

With a 4.5-star review on Yelp, La Barbecue has become a barbecue favorite in Austin, garnering great reviews from publications like USA Today and even landing a spot on Texas Monthly’s list of best barbecue joints in the world.

The Statesman reports that the Quickie Pickie -- a unique cross between a restaurant, convenience store, beer joint, café and wine bar -- will continue to serve their typical fare to customers, but La Barbecue will handle all their food operations, operating at their same hours of 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday with plans to eventually add Tuesday hours.

Founded by LeAnn Mueller -- the daughter of famous pitmaster Bobby Mueller -- the first La Barbecue trailer opened in South Austin in 2012, moving to its current East Austin lot in 2015.
