AUSTIN - Several street closures are planned for Saturday morning and early afternoon for the annual Chuy’s Children Giving to Children Parade.
APD said San Jacinto Boulevard will completely close between East 10th and East 15th Streets at 6 a.m. The Congress Avenue Bridge will close at 8 a.m., and all other street closures will begin at 9 a.m., including Congress between the Capitol and the Congress Avenue Bridge.
Cross-town traffic will be allowed on 5th and 6th Streets until 9 a.m. Saturday and on Cesar Chavez Street until 10 a.m. Saturday. APD said towing will be “strictly enforced” along Congress between Cesar Chavez and 11th Street.
The Chuy’s Children Giving to Children Parade, now in its 28th year, is an annual toy drive benefiting Austin Police Operation Blue Santa. People attending the parade are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy to donate for infants to 14 year olds. At times during the parade, entries will stop and people can place their donations on the entries.
APD said the parade is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m., and streets are set to reopen at 2 p.m.
