AUSTIN -- North Austin hosted training exercises to speed up emergency response across Central Texas.

Dozens of volunteers from the Motorcycle Special Events team trained along-side first responders in the parking lot at Shoreline Christian Academy Saturday.

The goal was to learn how to prepare for emergency helicopter landings and how to prepare the patient for safe transport. Those taking part said the training could shave minutes off response time.

"The first hour after an event for the critical patient is what we call the 'golden hour,'" said Barry Jucha, MSET. "The faster we can get them packaged and shipped off by a helicopter to the ambulance, the better of chances for survival."

Saturday's training also involved the use of cadaver dogs to practice searching for missing people.
