AUSTIN -- A 15 and 16 year old were arrested in connection with a homicide in South Austin Saturday night.
Residents of a neighborhood just north of Manchaca found a teenager suffering from a gunshot wound that he later died from.
Witnesses said the night's events began on Canon Yeoman Trail when a family member heard suspicious noises outside their house. Three brothers walked out to investigate, and they found a vehicle that appeared to have been broken into.
A quick look for the person responsible turned into a chase that ended in gunfire.
A homeowner found 17-year-old Mark Brandon Dominguez suffering from a gunshot wound in his front yard and called 911.
Police arrived and were searching for suspects when a taxi cab drove through the neighborhood. After stopping the cab, police found two teenage boys inside who fit suspect descriptions. Both carried handguns and were arrested.
Sunday morning, neighbors walked out into what was still a very active crime scene.
"Well there were about ten or 12 cops on their hands and knees, scouring that yard over there," said resident Jim Morrison. "They had the caution tape up, and then there was a bicycle in the middle of the road. I just assumed that a car had hit a bicyclist or something. One of the officers walked over to me and I ask him what happened. He said there was a shooting, and that's when I was pretty shocked because I didn't hear anything."
Other neighbors said they heard plenty. They told KVUE that they heard shouting down the street in an escalating confrontation.
Both suspects were taken to Gardner Betts Juvenile Detention Center. One faces murder charges and the other faces unlawful carrying of a weapon.
Dominguez was participating in the Manchaca Volunteer Fire Department Explorers Program. He was a student at Akins High School. AISD released the following statement:
"We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss of one of our students. We extend oiur deepest condolences to his family."
AISD will provide counseling and support to the Akins community.
