BUFFALO, New York -- As thousands of teachers across the country face layoffs, some New York teachers are getting some pretty nice perks.

All 3,400 teachers in Buffalo, New York are eligible for full coverage of any plastic surgery procedure under one of their insurance plan options.

This includes botox, liposuction and tummy tucks with no deductible.

Buffalo's schools spent $5.9 million on plastic surgery last year.

Now, the president of the Board of Education is projecting a $42 million deficit in next year's budget. The teachers' union says its contract with the city expired nearly 10 years ago and negotiations for a new one have failed.

"We've told the district from the beginning of negotiations six or eight years ago that we're willing to give it up, so as long the district comes back to the table with us, it's gone," president of the Buffalo, New York Teachers Federation Philip Rumore said.

Officials say the policy will remain until a new deal is done. The school board president says with all the money spent on plastic surgery, the district could hire about 240 new teachers.
