CALDWELL COUNTY, Texas -- Along Rolling Ridge Road in Caldwell County near Lockhart, the storm last week can still be seen and heard.

Pumps are working around the clock as heavy machinery builds dams.

On Tuesday, contractor Craig Simon spent several hours aboard a tractor. He dumped dirt in order to open up a pathway to homes which had been cut off from the street.

“The concrete here was eaten around,” Simon said. “Debris was across the road.”

Just under a foot of rain fell within the past week. It left fields of mud, as well as a lake in Julie Bukowsky’s yard.

The water on Tuesday flowed swiftly over her driveway, as she worried that a bridge on her property was gone.

“We can get out on a neighbor’s driveway, but our bridge is still under water,” Bukowsky said.

Nobody is stranded, but residents are being inconvenienced. Some can only get out by walking or driving through a neighbor’s yard.
