AUSTIN -- The Sweetwater Jaycees are hosting Rattlesnake demonstrations Wednesday through Friday in the outdoor rotunda in the Capitol Extension the Texas State Capitol.
Demonstrations will be from 9 a.m. to noon and 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday the hours will be 9:00 a.m. to noon.
The Jaycees will be giving demonstrations of the "Rattlesnake Round-Up" program that is held in Sweetwater, Texas each year. According to a press release about the event, "the Round-Up was started as a way to control the population of snakes in their area of Texas. The over-population of rattlesnakes was causing harm to the local farmers and ranchers who were losing their livestock to these natural predators."
The demonstrations at the Capitol are meant to promote wildlife preservation and provide visitors an opportunity to experience life from other parts of Texas.
