In South Austin there’s a place you might think trees come to die. But Organics by Gosh is actually a place that breathes them back to life.
"I like to think of ourselves as a land refilling company, instead of a land filling company,” said Maureen Fitzgerald, sales coordinator of Organics by Gosh.
This is a business that turns yard waste into mulch. They keep 12 Olympic size swimming pools worth of yard waste out of the landfill every year.
Inocencio Hernandez owns his own landscaping company and made two trips Friday. One load filled an 8 foot trailer.
“That tree one was on top of a house, on the roof. So we removed it,” he said.
Hernandez is making as many trips as he can here lately for one big reason.
"Right now we are doing the Tropical Storm Hermine special,” said Fitzgerald. “We are not charging. So they can bring out their green waste at no charge."
And it's not just this weekend. Organics by Gosh plans to offer the free drop off through the end of September.
“Even though people have best laid plans for this weekend, we know if you're anything like us, it may take you a few days up to a few weeks to clean up the mess that was left behind,” said Fitzgerald.
They’re also making it easier on people because normally when you bring your yard waste to the dump you've got to keep it within certain parameters. At Organics by Gosh you can bring any size waste, as much as you want to dump.
Need help unloading? For 10-dollars crews will help you do that.
Then they'll grind it up and let it cook anywhere between 9 months to 2 years before its ready to make its way back into your yard.
It's one of the few ways where mother nature's fury actually becomes mother nature's helper.
Organics by Gosh is located off of FM 969 open from 8am to noon on Saturdays and 7:30am to 4:30pm weekdays.
Free pickup for Cedar Park residents
And this is a reminder for any Cedar Park residents who suffered flood damage. Cedar Park Disposal will be providing free flood debris curb-side pickup beginning Saturday, September 11th and running through Saturday, September 18th (excluding Sunday).
All flood debris should be set out to the curb for pick up. To assist crews, residents are asked to place small flood debris into bags or containers, and carpets should be rolled and tied.
Some restrictions will apply. No hazardous waste, household chemicals or appliances containing CFCs, such as refrigerators, freezers or air-conditioning units will be accepted.
