An effort to help child abuse investigations move more quickly opened Wednesday.
The police chief, Travis County sheriff and several other local dignitaries cut the ribbon Wednesday afternoon on a new child protection team facility on FM 969 in eastern Travis County.
The facility puts the Center for Child Protection next to local law enforcement agencies with the goal of speeding up abuse investigations.
In 2009, the center provided free protection services to more than 1,400 children and 1,200 adults.
