There was high drama on the city's south side Tuesday morning, as a mother and son were trapped inside their home by flames until a family member rescued them from what investigators are calling a suspicious fire.

According to the San Antonio Fire Department, officials got the call for a blaze at the corner of Mary and Greenwood just before 3 a.m.

There were reports of at least two people trapped inside. Naomi Ramos and her 9-year-old son had to be rescued by her brother, who had to break a window to get them out.

The home does not have a back door.

Her brother thought the cracking glass he heard was a car burglar. Naomi and son were fast asleep at the time.

Meanwhile, fire fighters made quick order of dousing the flames.

According to investigators, it looks like the fire was started on the exterior of the front porch, which is why they called arson to the scene. This also lines up with something the rescuing brother told KENS 5 about some previous threats.
