Starflight crews had their hands full late Tuesday night through the day Wednesday with more than a dozen water rescues in Central Texas.

One of the families rescued talked to KVUE Wednesday about their harrowing experience.

“Looked like somebody was shooting a water hose through our front door,” said 17-year-old Ragan Pope, who was rescued by helicopter along with his sister, mom, and dad from the second story of their home on F.M. 971 east of  S.H. 130.

Water from four different tributaries caused five feet of flood water to take over the first story of their home.

Three large pick-ups parked in the Pope’s front yard were carried at least 50 yards and stacked on top of each other.

On Wednesday afternoon, an army of family and friends helped the Popes salvage what they could.  However the Popes chose not to focus on the material things lost.

The family’s alarm system sounded sometime after 1:30 a.m. for some reason, which is what first woke the Popes up.

“We just kind of started gathering some of the things and tried to get a plan together of what we could do if (Starflight) didn't make it, and I just prayed. That's all I needed to do was just pray and that's what got us through. It’s by the grace of God that my alarm system went off,” said Marie Pope, one of the four rescued early Wednesday.

“We're absolutely blessed because God was watching over us. Our faith is strong and I know that's what got us through. Absolutely, 100 percent, without a doubt,” added Ms. Pope.

On Thursday, the Georgetown Baseball team is expected to be at the Pope home to help the family with the clean up effort.
