AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Seven Texas members of Congress from Latino, African and Asian ancestry have threatened to appeal any redistricting deal that does not include all the minority groups involved in the lawsuit over political maps.
Attorney General Greg Abbott contacted the Mexican American Legislative Caucus and a couple of other groups to begin talks to reach a temporary settlement in their lawsuit over redistricting. But there are nine groups representing minorities that sued in federal court accusing the Republican-dominated Legislature of drawing discriminatory maps.
The judges set a Monday deadline for a compromise on the legislative and congressional maps, or see the April 3 primary election delayed.
The five members of Congress said that if all nine minority groups are not included, then legal appeals would derail the deal.
