AUSTIN --The cedar pollen count hit the second highest level Sunday since December 30 at 2,568 grains per cubic meter.

Auditorium Shores drew big crowds of people who wanted to take advantage of the mild January weather, but many were also battling cedar fever symptoms.

“Just wanted to get out and exercise, but you can definitely tell when your eyes are burning,” Stephanie Weber said.

“Cedar will make me sneeze about 20 times in a row, 3 times in an hour when I’m not on medication,” runner Jamie Shutter said.

Shutter said she takes an anti-histamine, a steroid inhaler, and uses a saline nasal rinse so she can continue to exercise outdoors.

The highest cedar pollen count was on December 30 at 5348 gr/m3. Saturday's count was 1521 gr/m3.
