AUSTIN -- Officials with Austin Community College are moving forward with plans of turning part of Highland Mall into classroom space.

The college's Board of Trustees selected an architect and engineering team recently to renovate what was formerly JCPenney at the mall. It will become classroom space and is expected to open in the fall of 2014.

ACC also owns the former Macy's and Dillard's stores. The college is still working on plans for those areas. The land where the core of the mall sits is also owned by ACC.
