Make-A-Wish helps Central Texas boy get his dream tree house

Hayden, 7, was granted his wish for a wheelchair-accessible tree house.

AUSTIN - One Central Texas boy is enjoying his wish come true Tuesday afternoon, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and South Texas and generous supporters.

Overcast skies can't dampen 7-year-old Hayden's enthusiasm or take away his sunny smile. He, along with his Lakeway Elementary classmates, are ready to watch his dream come true.

"Hayden was born with spina bifida," said his mother, Adrienne Trigg. "He has had 18 surgeries to date."

His wish: a wheelchair-accessible tree house.

Over the past few weeks, Hayden was able to watch as workers built his dream, piece by piece.

"He got to see it framed, he got off the bus every day, he got to see it go up so every day has been an exciting thing for him to watch," Trigg said. "We cry so much because we're just so happy, it brings joy to our whole family."

Rob Soluri with Austin Tree Houses helped build Hayden's wish. He made everything, from the ramp to the size of the doors and windows, ADA-compliant.

"It's been a labor of love," Soluri said. "Today to have him actually go in there and see it for the first time it was just fabulous, it doesn't get any better than that."

Inside, there's plenty of room for Hayden and his wheelchair, along with his friends. There's even a loft where the kids can use a bucket to bring things up and lower them down.

An ADA-compliant playhouse like this can cost more than $50,000.

Biotrust Nutrition, an Austin company, sponsored Hayden's wish.

"It makes us grateful for what we have and if we can give back we're all for it," said Biotrust's Kim Eschner. "Their dreams get to come true with Make A Wish and it's such an amazing moment."

It's a dream come true for Hayden, one that will keep him smiling as he undergoes additional surgeries in the years to come.
