African American Heritage Museum

Dr. Charles Smith is the artist and curator of the museum. He is a Vietnam veteran and the recipient of a Purple Heart. Dr. Smith is a self-taught artist whose mission is to “educate and enlighten visitors about the culture, contributions, talents, hardships and victories of Africans and African-Americans; and to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions of African-American soldiers. He is also a lecturer and teacher. Examples of his work are on exhibit around the country. The African American Heritage Museum is located at the corner of S Walnut Street and E Louisiana Avenue in a residential neighborhood in Hammond, LA. There are additional museums located in New Orleans, LA and Aurora, IL.
