WASHINGTON -- Vashon Island resident Andrew D. Uber was in the right place at the right time Friday for some up close photos of a passing orca pod.

Uber, who says he's lived on Vashon for two years, saw the orcas from his home on the island's north end. So, he said, he and his friends "piled into the care and headed to Point Robinson Lighthouse."

"The idea to haul tail over to Point Robinson is what yielded us the cool pics!," he wrote in an email. "They were SO close to shore - it was incredible."

So close, he said, that "they charged the shore and threw a wave about 5 feet up the beach!"

Thank you, Andrew, for sharing these photos.

And Ann Wilson was on Vashon and took this amazing video of the orcas. Thanks Ann!
