San Marcos to hold 33rd SummerFest on July 4

SAN MARCOS, Texas -- The City of San Marcos has announced its plans for the 33rd annual SummerFest. SummerFest is a free, kid-friendly community-wide Independence Day celebration with live music, fireworks, and a patriotic costume contest and parade for kids.

The event will open at 6 p.m. July 4 at San Marcos Plaza Park. The patriotic costume contest and parade will start promptly at 7 p.m. The winners will be announced in a ceremony that begins at 7:20 p.m.

Children’s parade registration and line-up will begin at 6:30 p.m. Costumed kids will be judged in “most patriotic” and “cutest” divisions with prizes awarded in each category and a “best overall” named.

David Ybarra will headline at 7:30 p.m.

A variety of food vendors will be open for business at 6 p.m.

The fireworks display will start at 9:30 p.m. and the festival grounds will close at 10 p.m.

Parking for SummerFest will be available at the Public Library, Activity Center and at the Texas State University Strahan Coliseum parking lot.
