AUSTIN -- If you're looking for free, structured activities for your kids this summer, the Austin Parks and Recreation Department has just the program.
The Summer Playgrounds Program kicks off June 10 at 13 park sites throughout the city. The program runs Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Children ages 6 to 12 can attend and participate in activities that promote creativity, teamwork and a healthy lifestyle. All Summer Playgrounds Program sites offer programming that includes arts and crafts projects, organized sports and creative games. Three Summer Playgrounds Program Premier Sites will offer enhanced activities to include guest speakers, and advanced arts and crafts projects.
Registration is required, at the park site, on the child’s first day of attendance.
The program will run through August 2, and all sites will be closed on July 4.
