AUSTIN -- Need something fun for the kids to do this summer? The Austin Humane Society is here to help. AHS will kick off a free Summer Kids Series this month to provide fun for all ages.
“The Summer Kids Series is a great opportunity for children of all ages to learn about caring for the animals in our community,” said AHS Executive Director Frances Jonon.
The series will begin Tuesday, June 25 with Summer Story Time. At the event each month, animal-themed books will be read and children will learn how to properly greet animals. Songs about animals will also be sung.
Summer Story Time schedule:
- Tuesday, June 25 at 2 p.m.: Children 18 months to three years
- Tuesday, July 23 at 2 p.m.: Children ages three years to five years
- Tuesday, August 6 at 2 p.m.: Children ages five years and up
The Summer Kids Series will feature the society's annual Teddy Bear Surgery Day on Saturday, July 13 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Kids of all ages will play surgical assistants as they care for their stuffed animals. There will also be coloring, crafts and goodie bags. Children should bring their favorite stuffed animal to the event.
Animal Art Workshops will also be held as part of the Summer Kids Series. Local artists will be teaching kids the tricks and techniques of drawing animals. The dates for those events have not yet been determined.
Events for the Summer Kids Series are free, but sign up is required. Go here for more information.
