Local bands place in national contest

AUSTIN -- Several Austin-area high school bands placed in the Bands of America Grand National Championships over the weekend.

Round Rock High School took fourth place. Cedar Ridge High School, also from Round Rock ISD, came in 11th place.

Another Texas school, The Woodlands, took the first place prize.

In addition, the Round Rock High School band also took home the Outstanding Music Performance award in the Class AAAA category in the semifinals competition. They also received an invitation to perform in the 2015 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif.

Ninety-one bands from around the country competed in the contest.
