CultureMap Austin -- Comedy fans are in for a super-sized, if hot, treat this summer when Funny or Die's The Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival comes to town. Kicking off in Austin on Friday, August 23 at the Austin360 Amphitheater, the festival will feature a number of big name comedians, including Dave Chappelle and Flight of the Conchords.

Dave Chappelle is one of the enigmas of the comedy world. After a slow and steady rise, he found himself at the top of his field with his acclaimed Comedy Central series, Chappelle's Show. But just when he couldn't get any hotter, he walked away from the program in 2005, stunning fans and fellow comedians alike.

He cited his love of stand-up, and the program taking away from that, as one of the biggest reasons for his decision. This will be his highest-profile comedy tour in years. (Chappelle was in Austin last summer for a one-night engagement at the Paramount Theatre, widely regarded as a disastrous 90-minute set.)
