CAIRO (AP) — At least 10 off-duty army soldiers have been killed in a car bombing in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. Security officials say Wednesday's explosion hit the off-duty soldiers as they traveled by minibus from the border town of Rafah to the city of El Arish. Egypt's lawless Sinai Peninsula has been under increasing attack from militants in the region and security officials are often a target.
JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — Indonesia's intelligence agency chief says Australia has agreed to stop eavesdropping on the phones of senior Indonesian leaders. Indonesia recently recalled its ambassador to Australia in response to the allegation. The intelligence chief says Indonesia has "downgraded" its relations with Australia and is reviewing bilateral cooperation on issues with its neighbor.
UNDATED (AP) — A San Diego Republican councilman is headed for a runoff to determine who'll replace disgraced former mayor Bob Filner, who resigned following allegations he sexually harassed several women. Kevin Faulconer leads a field of 11 candidates with more than 44 percent of the vote. But now, two Democrats are locked in a tight battle to determine which one of them will advance to the runoff. And in Albuquerque, N.M., voters rejected a measure to ban abortions after 20 weeks, except to save the mother's life.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — R&B singer Chris Brown is due in court Wednesday to update a judge on his probation for the 2009 attack on then girlfriend Rihanna. It'll be Brown's first time in court since he was arrested last month in Washington, D.C. for allegedly punching a man who tried to get in a photo with Brown. Brown recently attended rehab for anger management.
NEW YORK (AP) — There's a float flap over Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. Animal rights activists plan to line the parade route next week to protest a float by SeaWorld, who in a new documentary is accused of treating whales badly at its theme parks. And some folks also don't like the pairing of rocker Joan Jett and Shamu the killer whale. Ranchers succeeded in getting Jett pulled off the South Dakota tourism float after they questioned why the animal-rights ally and vegetarian was representing their beef-loving state.
