TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) — Fighting among militias vying for control in Libya continues. Soldiers along with government-affiliated militias stormed a military base occupied by gunmen in the capital on Saturday, sparking fresh fighting that left four dead. Meanwhile, thousands of people gathered in Tripoli to mourn the 43 killed Friday when militias fired on a crowd urging the dissolution of unlawful armed groups.
SCHNEEBERG, Germany (AP) — Germany's biggest far-right party has gotten hundreds of people to participate in a torch-lit march against refugees for the second time this month. The demonstrators are opposed to the opening of a reception center for asylum seekers in the town of Schneeberg. .At the same time, some 1,500 others took part in a march for tolerance organized by town officials.
MIAMI (AP) — Miami-Dade police believe they've found the body of Florida man who fell from a private plane into the waters off South Florida on Thursday afternoon. They presume the body found in a mangrove area this morning is that of 42-year-old Gerardo Nales but are awaiting official word from the medical examiner. Authorities say investigators have no evidence of foul play.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — A Penn State University student is dead after he fell from the ninth floor balcony of an off-campus apartment building. State police said 20-year-old Conor Macmannis was pronounced dead at the scene early today. Police say a preliminary investigation indicates drugs and alcohol apparently were factors in the fall.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The National Zoo says its female giant panda cub now weighs almost 10 pounds. Officials say its nose is starting to lose its pink color and turn black like an adult panda. The as yet unnamed cub was born Aug. 23 and is only the second surviving panda cub born at the zoo. The cub will make her public debut at the zoo in early 2014.
