HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a 67-year-old woman from Ecuador has drowned while vacationing on Hilton Head Island.

Beaufort County Deputy Coroner David Ott told The Island Packet of Hilton Head (http://bit.ly/158fYOF ) that people walking on the beach found a body floating in the ocean around 1:15 p.m. Saturday.

Ott says paramedics tried to resuscitate Maddeline Raad, but she was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators say Raad had gone for a walk alone about two hours before her body was found. She was vacationing on the island with her husband and two sons.

Authorities aren't sure how Raad ended up in the water, but Ott says she may have been trying to cross a creek as the tide was going out, slipped and was pulled into the ocean.
