I wonder: How do you make a customized ring tone?

With more and more people buying smartphones, it is becoming increasingly harder to tell when yours is the one that is ringing; everyone has the same few chirps, chimes, and blow horns to alert them someone is calling.

So how can you set your ringtone apart from the rest?

A KVUE co-worker tells me the following will do the trick for the iPhone:

1. E-mail the desired voice memo to your desktop

2. Download it to your desktop

3. Change the file extension from m4a to m4r

4. Import it into iTunes

It will now show up in the ringtones category of iTunes and be available for you to add the next time you sync your phone.

I also found these iPhone instructions that may come in handy as well.

As I am a lover of all things Apple, I cannot vouch for the instructions in the links below for those of you who do not have iPhones, BUT I do hope that perhaps they will point Blackberry and Android users in the right direction.
