AUSTIN -- The Salvation Army announces it will help families who lost their homes and belongings when a fire ripped through a Northwest Austin apartment complex.

The fire left more than 100 people homeless after it destroyed three buildings at the International Residence Apartments Thursday morning.

The Salvation Army said Friday it will give $500 vouchers to each apartment unit to be used for clothes, household items or other things which need to be replaced.

Residents can redeem their vouchers at the Salvation Army family store at 4216 South Congress Avenue between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

In addition to those vouchers, residents are being invited to the Salvation Army Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. at 501 East 8th Street.

The organization will also give Christmas toys to families in need through the Angel Tree Program.

Cash donations are being taken for residents. They can be sent to The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1000, Austin, Texas, 78767. Please write "Fire Victims" on the donation.
