AUSTIN -- Generous givers are helping Santa Clause provide Christmas gifts to Central Texas children this holiday season. The McNeil Post Office is taking part in Operation: Letters to Santa.

Postmaster Belinda Saucedo is connecting children in need with Santa’s special helpers. She is helping Santa read his stacks of letters and helping him provide gifts.

“We've had people come in and take three or four letters at a time and come back with stacks of presents for the kids,” said Saucedo. “It's sad to think there are a lot of people out there who need the help."

The U.S. Postal Service has helped children in need since 1912. Santa’s elves say it’s worth every dollar.

“The fact that somebody's little heart could be broken because Santa didn't come that breaks my heart,” said Barbara Baker-Price. She is helping Santa by providing gifts for three children this year.

One seven year old wants a violin, a ball, and a jack in the box.

Saturday morning is the deadline to adopt a child. The wrapped gifts must be returned and ready to ship on Monday. The McNeil Post Office is located at 14005 McNeil Road in Northwest Austin.
