AUSTIN -- A local non-profit is seeking help from volunteers this holiday season.
Meals on Wheels and More officials say it has 31 meal routes across Austin and will most likely have volunteer cancellations in the next few weeks.
The organization is asking for volunteers to help drive the routes to families in need. During the holiday season, Meals on Wheels sees the highest rates of volunteer turnover, as many cancel due to holiday vacations and obligations, officials said. They add that 90 percent of the nearly one million meals it gives out every year are delivered by volunteers.
“We, along with our clients, absolutely depend on the generosity of our volunteers," CEO & President of Meals on Wheels and More Dan Pruett said. “When you donate your time to our organization, you do more than deliver a meal. You also deliver hope. Right now, we need more members of the community to come forward and volunteer to help their neighbors in need. ”
Substitute drivers are needed through Jan. 2. For more information on how you can volunteer, click here.
