AUSTIN -- It was a special day for dozens of young children in the city.
Fifty Austin police officers, members of Amigos en Azul, took them holiday shopping at the Capital Plaza Target in Central Austin.
The kids are all students at Ortega and Normal Elementary Schools. Each one got a $50 gift card to buy presents for themselves and their families. They also went to lunch at CiCi's Pizza.
The "Shop with a Cop" program is designed to encourage children to see police in a positive light.
