AUSTIN -- The Tony-winning adaptation of Disney's Oscar-winning movie "The Lion King" takes the stage this month at Bass Concert Hall.
The production acclaimed for its stunning visuals follows lion cub Simba as he learns to embrace his destiny as a king. Just like in the movie, Simba and his pals prance and prowl across Africa to the songs of Elton John and Tim Rice. Exotic costumes and visual images created by Julie Taymor won critical reviews when the show premiered in 1997. It picked up six Tony awards, including Best Musical.
"The Lion King" is the highest-grossing Broadway show in history, and audiences around the world continue to embrace the touring productions. Twenty productions around the globe have been seen by more than 65 million people, grossing more than $5 billion.
