AUSTIN – Vendors at the former South Congress food trailer spot ousted to make room for a hotel may soon have a permanent home to call their own.

The Kurt Simons Company has announced plans to create what they’re calling “The Picnic,” a food trailer lot just east of Chuy’s Restaurant on Barton Springs Road.

“We tried to look at all the different options that would give them a nice place that would be a nice environment for them to stay long-term,” said Alastair Jenkin with the Kurt Simon Company.

Jenkin says the picnic will feature only eight food trailers including Hey Cupcake, Mrs. P's and Mighty Cone, just to name a few.

The Picnic will also have air conditioned bathrooms and 80 parking spaces.

It’s scheduled to open in early March 2014, just in time for South by Southwest.
